The forgotten stone bridges

Pigment ink sketch. 150mm x 210mm. 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, 0.8. Uni. A study in lighting and shadows amidst the deep forest.

I would be re-visiting this theme in future but in a different form, perhaps, a even more dramatic form of lighting and shadows.

  1. I like ur dedication to drawing SC! I am gonna be a bastard and say depending on where ur light is coming from, the bridges should cast shadows or be in the shade.

  2. Yes, you are right of course. The forest canopy is meant to have diffused lighting and cast irregular shadows all over. I would need to refine my techniques and pre-define spots and lines using pencil marks first. I will have to re-visit this theme again and again.

  3. I didn't work with a single point of light and didn't want to but the lighting and shadows could have been better defined. Utilising washes would have been easier I suppose but I was trying to control the cardinal sin of overdrawing.
